Josh Key, Lawrence Vigouroux and Lee Trundle host Advocate FC for training session at Fairwood
Last month Swansea City invited Advocate FC – a football team which is part of the charity Advocates and Angels – to Fairwood for a training session with some familiar faces.
Advocates and Angels provide support to parents affected by child loss, disability, ongoing care and hospital treatment.
Husband and wife team Bethan and David Germon set up the charity after losing their daughter Lydia in childhood following a long battle with ill-health. When reaching out for help, the couple were told my multiple charities that they didn’t meet the criteria and threshold for support.
Determined that no one in their position should ever be denied support, they began Advocates and Angels. Among the charity’s numerous focusses, they also work with the club’s 2024-25 charity partner of the season – Swansea Bay Health Charity Cwtsh Clos appeal – by providing the essential items you don’t think of when rushing to the hospital with a critically ill child.
Advocate FC came later and was set up for the dads who either struggle to talk about the emotional impact of child disability, child loss or who – like the Germons – find themselves not meeting the threshold for charitable support.
The team play friendly matches once a month and are always open to new players.
