Swansea City Women’s captain Katy Hosford insists she and her teammates believe they can win the Genero Adran Premier title, but only if they can maintain the high standards that have helped them close the gap to leaders Cardiff City.

Hosford's side reduced the gap between themselves and the Bluebirds to five points in the final game of phase one of the league season, courtesy of a 2-0 win that ended Cardiff's 35-match unbeaten run in the Welsh top-flight.

The win sets the Swans up for a thrilling phase two, with a crucial south Wales derby double-header coming up in phase two.

Phase two begins with back-to-back home games for the Swans, as they host third-placed Wrexham before welcoming Aberystwyth a week later.

And with belief high in the camp, Hosford feels the potential is there for the Swans to ensure a close title race over the remainder of the campaign.

“Being eight points behind the leaders was a difficult task, but we’ve reduced it, we play them twice more in phase two and the chance to win the league is still there,” said Hosford.

“The belief is absolutely there in the group, particularly after the result last weekend.

“We just have to keep building on this, it’s great for everyone in the team, it gives us a huge boost and great motivation heading into phase two.

“I’m so proud of the whole team, we’ve put ourselves into a strong position and we need to keep this going.

"We have been on a really good run, we are unbeaten in 11 league games. We were in the position of having a long run without losing, and I feel it changes your mindset, so it was massive for us to get the result at the end of phase one."
