Kristian Pedersen has revealed how hearing Michael Duff’s plans for Swansea City played a key role in his decision to join the club.

The 29-year-old has joined the Swans on a two-year contract, subject to international clearance, and provides a left-footed defensive option for head coach Duff, with the Dane able to operate as a left-sided centre-half, full-back or wing-back.

Pedersen also knows the Championship well having previously spent four seasons with Birmingham City, making over 150 appearances for the Blues during that time.

A Denmark international, Pedersen boasts top-flight experience from his time in Germany, and he had no hesitation in committing to a move to SA1 once he had the opportunity to speak to Swans boss Duff.

“I had a really good chat with the manager,” he said.

“He told me about the way that he wants to play, and about the playing style and I feel like it really suits me.

“That was the main factor in my decision to come here and I think it is a great match.

“We talked about the playing philosophy and how he thinks I can fit into it as a player.

“I felt positive about it, and I am very excited to be here with everything sorted. I cannot wait to get started.

“I am happy to play wherever the gaffer wants me to play for the team. I can play as a left centre-back, left-back or wing-back so I hope I can bring a few options there.

“I always remember that whenever I played Swansea I thought they were a team who wanted to play good football.

“Now I am happy to be a part of it at this club.”

Pedersen also hopes his experience and knowledge of the Championship can be a big asset to the Swans, and says he will relish the responsibility of being one of the older heads in a young squad.

“The Championship is a tough competition, and it is a tough season when you are playing in it, so you have to be focused on coming and doing your job every day,” added the Dane.

“I am looking forward to the task of being one of the senior players and taking responsibility.

“I can bring in some experience to a young squad and I am looking forward to that.

“I am a quiet guy off the field, but when I am on the pitch I am louder, and I look to try and help and support my teammates.”
