Lawrence Vigouroux | We have to refocus ahead of a big week
Lawrence Vigouroux says it is important for Swansea City to quickly reset and attack a big week following the disappointment of conceding a late leveller against Hull City.
The Swans had been set to record a third win from four league games when they led 2-1 deep into injury time against the Tigers at the Swansea.com Stadium.
But John Egan bundled in an equaliser after a goalmouth scramble as it ended 2-2.
Goalkeeper Vigouroux, fresh from making his senior international debut against Chile, made a handful of excellent saves during the contest, notably denying Joe Gelhardt, Mohamed Belloumi and Enis Destan, but that was of no comfort to the former Leyton Orient man.
“That was just incredibly disappointing,” he said.
“We were guilty of dropping a bit too deep towards the end, and ultimately we got punished.
“We have got to get over it quickly because we have got a big week to look forward to now, we have Forest at home – a Premier League side – in the cup and then the trip to Birmingham City next weekend.
“Those are games to really look forward to. Despite this disappointment, we are still on a good unbeaten run and I think we’ve competed really well in every game.
“I think that shows how far we have come and we are evolving as a team, and we have to take that into this week.”
Vigouroux’s performance at the Swansea.com Stadium came on the back of him playing for Chile against Brazil in the Maracana and then keeping a clean sheet against Uruguay in their World Cup qualifiers.
It was a proud moment for the 31-year-old and one he has had to wait a long time for.
“It was a great experience for me,” he said with a smile.
“I have worked so hard for that opportunity, the manager trusted me to play.
“I think there are a lot of easier debuts you could have than Brazil away, but it was such a proud moment for me and my family.
“I am itching to get another opportunity like that, but to do that I have to make sure I am focused on performing well for Swansea.”
