Leon set for return to action

Leon Britton is hoping to put himself in contention for a first appearance under Carlos Carvalhal as he gets set for a return to full training.

Fans’ favourite Britton has not played a first-team game since the home defeat to Leicester back on October 21.

But the midfield stalwart is hopeful that he will have a part to play in the final third of the season.

Britton is set to return to training with Carvalhal’s squad tomorrow after having an injection in his pelvis and could be available for Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

Britton’s lack of game-time so far this season has been thanks in part to his spell working on Paul Clement’s coaching staff, then his brief stint as the Swans’ caretaker manager.

He had the option of becoming a full-time coach following Carvalhal’s appointment at the end of December, but opted instead to focus on continuing his playing career.

His return to the fold will be particularly welcome given that fellow midfielders Renato Sanches (hamstring) and Leroy Fer (Achilles) are both on the sidelines.
