Luke Williams faces a club he has fond memories of on Saturday, but his focus at Carrow Road will be firmly on Swansea City finishing the season strongly.

The Swansea boss’ playing aspirations were ended by injuries at a young age, but he had a four-year spell on the books at Norwich City that coincided with a great period in the club’s history.

The Canaries finished third in the top-flight in 1993, behind Manchester United and Aston Villa, having led the first Premier League season by eight points at one stage.

The following campaign they would knock German giants Bayern Munich out of the Uefa Cup – Wales international Jeremy Goss scoring a stunning volley – before eventually losing to Serie A luminaries Inter Milan.

Williams witnessed all those moments, and admits it will be special to return to his old club.

“I signed for them at 12 years of age as a schoolboy, because the rules back then were you could not sign any younger,” he said.

“I was there for four years, it was an incredible club that was ahead of its time.

“During that time they finished second in Premier League, and Jeremy Goss scored an incredible volley against Bayern Munich.

“I have a lot of ties there, and it’s a brilliant football club and it will be nice to go back there.

“In the end my body gave up on me a lot. I had a lot of problems with my ankles and other things going wrong, so I went to Bristol Rovers.

“I had more problems and needed five knee operation by the time I was 21. So, my body wasn’t cut out for playing football. But I loved my schoolboy days at Norwich City.”

However, the niceties will have to wait as the Swans look to record a fourth win in a row at the end of a challenging season.

And Williams wants his team to carry on the momentum after racked up eight goals and conceded none in their last three fixtures.

“You can see the team is playing in a good way,” he said.

“But, as I have said, it’s about being able to bring that on a more consistent basis. We are showing signs of starting to do that but there is still a lot for us to work on and improve on.

“We know the importance of making sure we round the season off properly, so that has to be the focus.

“There’s can’t be any let-up, we have to keep going and pressing on."
