Matt Grimes is targeting a second consecutive start today as Swansea City head to London to take on Millwall (5.30pm).

Grimes made his first start of the campaign in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, with the midfielder having featured in all but one of the Swans’ games this season.

With Jay Fulton unavailable for today’s trip to The Den after breaking a bone in his hand during last weekend’s loss to Bristol City, Grimes is hoping he has done enough to earn a first league start of 2018-19.

“With Jay being out, there is a slot available in midfield,” said Grimes.

“We have options in that area, but I’m fully fit and ready to play if the manager selects me.

“We need to bounce back from a disappointing result against Bristol City last week.

“It will be a tough one at Millwall, but there is a big determination within the squad to bounce back.”

The Swans have made a good start under new boss Graham Potter, with two wins, two draws and one defeat from their five games so far in the Championship.

And Grimes has been hugely impressed with the former Ostersund manager.

“I think we’ve started well. Despite losing last weekend, I feel we have put in some encouraging performances and picked up some good results,” added the 23-year-old.

“It’s testament to the gaffer that he’s implemented his ideas and set out a clear plan of what he wants us to do for each game, and that has allowed us to settle quickly.

“We are beginning to gel and we can see that on the pitch already.

“I have really enjoyed working the gaffer. He is brilliant on the pitch and is excellent one-to-one too.”
