Oli McBurnie won his third cap for Scotland as Alex McLeish’s side suffered a 2-0 friendly defeat against Peru.

The Swansea City striker, who scored nine goals in 17 appearances whilst on loan at Championship side Barnsley this season, came on in the second half in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Lima, replacing Jamie Murphy.

A young and inexperienced Scotland side struggled against the World Cup-bound Peruvians as they scored a goal either side of the half to consign the Scots to defeat.

But the third international appearance was another step forward for McBurnie, who claimed his first cap in the 1-0 defeat against Costa Rica at Hampden Park in March.

The 21-year-old striker also made 12 appearances for Swansea City in 2017-18 before joining Barnsley on loan in January.

Scotland next face Mexico in a friendly at the Estadio Azteca this Sunday, June 3.
