Mike: We must learn the lesson

Mike van der Hoorn reckons Swansea City must learn the lesson of their defeat by Bristol City if they are to thrive in the Championship this season.

Graham Potter’s side suffered their first defeat of 2018-19 as Andreas Weimann’s strike after just 30 seconds proved to be the difference at the Liberty yesterday.

The Swans failed to build on their performance in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United, with Potter conceding they could have no complaints over the loss.

And van der Hoorn, who wore the captain’s armband once again with Leroy Fer starting on the bench, admits the Swans must be switched on at all times if they are to impress in the second tier.

“In the first half of the game, it was clear that we weren’t ready,” the defender admits. “You saw that with the goal. It was far too easy and eventually cost us the game.

“I think we were disorganised. We didn’t create enough chances and Bristol City were solid.

“We need to find a way to improve and move on. We have to build on our second-half performance, but not forget to improve on what happened in the first half.

“This division is difficult. The games come thick and fast, and we have to be ready for every single one.”
