Leon Britton reckons Swansea City are facing another big January as they look to pull clear of Premier League relegation danger.

The Swans did some shrewd transfer business in the last winter transfer window, with Martin Olsson, Tom Carroll, Luciano Narsingh and Jordan Ayew all joining the club.

The quartet all played their part in ensuring the Swans, who took only 12 points in the first half of 2016-17, preserved their top-flight status thanks to some spectacular form in the second half of last season.

With the 2018 January window now just days away, the Swans are hoping for another influx of influential recruits.

“We have January coming up,” Britton said “I am sure there will be some fresh faces coming in and we need that.

“Last January, the club brought some players in who gave us a big boost in the second half of last season, and doing something similar will be important this year.

“We have to try to lift the place by bringing some fresh faces into the squad.”

While the hunt is on for signings who will make a difference, Britton is keen to point out that the club’s current players must also deliver.

The Swans were beaten in painful fashion at Liverpool on Boxing Day, and Britton is demanding more ahead of Saturday’s trip to Watford.

“We want some new faces, but it’s also down to the players we have now to get us out of it,” the caretaker manager added.

“The majority of them were here last year when we managed to survive and we now have to do the same again.”
