Nia Davies joins Academy

2nd July

Swansea City has strengthened its Academy structure with the appointment of Nia Davies as Football Development Co-Ordinator.
The 24-year-old will work alongside Academy Manager Nigel Rees as the club looks to expand its links with women's football in the local area.
Nia, who hails from mid Wales and has worked within our development centres over the last 12 months, also becomes the club's first full-time female coach within the Academy.
The move will see Nia help to develop girls football in the south west Wales catchment area and help to coach the younger girls in the club's Foundation Phase programme.
"One of my main aims is to get girls playing football in a structured fashion, and getting them interested in the game and learning about the club as well," she said.
"We will aim to do this through delivering workshops alongside local clubs and put on soccer camps for girls.
"Hopefully a lot more girls will get involved and, in turn, their mums may well come down and watch Swansea City in the future."
Academy Manager Nigel Rees added: "Ultimately, it would be great to eventually develop girls football in a more strategic fashion, and deliver a pathway for girls into football at Swansea City.
"As well as this it will be great if we can hold a grassroots coaching workshop for female coaches in the local area and help build further relationships with both the clubs and the wider community."
Nia will also be delivering a programme at the Royal Welsh Show (21-24 July) and if anyone requires any more information on the programmes ahead then you can contact her at niadavies@swanseacityfc.co.uk.
