Past meetings: Norwich v Swans

7th March
First team

As Swansea City prepare to face Norwich at Carrow Road on Friday (7.45pm), we take a look at some memorable past meetings between the sides.

Here, we remember games in the Premier League, Championship, and the old Third Division.

Norwich 1 Swansea 1

Premier League - December 15, 2013

Gary Hooper's volley denied Swansea City all three points at Carrow Road just before Christmas in 2013.

Michael Laudrup's side had taken an early lead when Nathan Dyer superbly capitalised on an error by Sebastien Bassong to lob the ball over the keeper and into the net.

But the winger's joy was shortlived as he suffered knee ligament damage after landing awkwardly when challenged by Bassong and had to be stretchered off.

And Norwich compounded that disappointment by levelling through in-form striker Hooper.

Norwich 2 Swansea 2

Premier League –  April 6, 2013

Goals from Michu and Luke Moore grabbed a point at Carrow Road, after the Swans had trailed heading into the final 20 minutes of the contest.

The visitors had led through Michu's 21st goal of the season, the Spaniard taking full advantage of excellent link-play between Nathan Dyer, Chico Flores and Jonathan De Guzman to emphatically fire home.

However, Robert Snodgrass had the home side level before the break, and Michael Turner's half-volley then put the Canaries ahead in the second half.

But Moore rescued a point as he converted from Angel Rangel's header, before Michu passed up a glorious late chance to snatch all three points.

Norwich 2 Swansea 3

Championship - November 15, 2008

The Swans' last league victory at Carrow Road came just over a decade ago. Three goals in a five-minute spell sealed the deal, with Jason Scotland, Darren Pratley and Ferrie Bodde all netting for the Swans.

The visitors had fallen behind early to an Arturo Lupoli strike, but lovely build up from Jordi Gomez and Angel Rangel teed up Scotland for the equaliser.

Two goals followed in quick succession to put the Swans in control, midfielder Pratley heading in from close range and Bodde finishing after more good work by Gomez.

An own goal from Rangel set up a tense finish, but Roberto Martinez's side stood firm to secure all three points and a first win at Carrow Road since 1948.

Norwich 1 Swansea 2

Division Three – April 24, 1948

The last league victory before a drought of sixty years at Carrow Road. The game saw record signing William Henry Lucas on the scoresheet, the striker having joined the Swans for £11,000 from Swindon the previous season.

Francis Henry Scrine would net the eventual winner just before half-time, and despite a late Norwich goal the Swans would hold out for victory.

Swansea would go on to be crowned Division Three champions with a 62-point total at the end of the season, seven ahead of chasers Reading.

Manager Billy McCandless would lead the club to an eighth place finish in the Second Division the following season.
