First team

Swansea City face Reading at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday (3pm) and, ahead of the Championship clash, we look back at some memorable meetings against the Royals.

Here we recall games from the Championship and the play-offs

Swansea City 2-0 Reading

Championship – October 27, 2018

A goal in each half from Oli McBurnie helped the Swans beat a Reading side lead by former manager Paul Clement on his old stomping ground.

Dan James was brought down in the box in the first half by Andy Yiadom, allowing McBurnie to fire home from the spot to give Swansea the lead.

With six minutes to go, McBurnie sealed all three points as the forward tapped home his sixth goal of the season from a low cross by James.

Swansea City 4-2 Reading

Play-off final – May 30, 2011

Nathan Dyer

Scott Sinclair hit a hat-trick at Wembley as Swansea were promoted to the top-flight for just the second time in the club’s history.

Zurab Khizanishvili fouled Nathan Dyer in the area, and up stepped Sinclair to score the opener from the spot. The forward doubled the Swans lead soon after, firing a shoot in at the far post.

Five minutes before the break, Stephen Dobbie put Swansea 3-0 up, turning the ball in after Dyer made a excellent run down the right flank.

After the break, the momentum swung in Reading’s favour with Joe Allen scoring an own goal just four minutes after the break, before Matt Mills converted a Jobi McAnuff corner just eight minutes later.

But Sinclair would step up to the spot once again to settle any nerves after Andy Griffin fouled Fabio Borini. The forward scored to complete his hat-trick and send Swansea City to the Premier League.

Swansea City 2-0 Reading

Championship – January 17, 2009

Swansea City handed the Royals their first defeat for two months through goals from Jason Scotland and Andrea Orlandi.

Scotland fired home a ball from Alan Tate on the edge of the area just before half-time, hitting his 12th goal of the season and his seventh in as many games.

Reading defender Liam Rosenior was given his marching orders in the second half before a late strike from Andrea Orlandi sealed the win for Swansea.

The Spanish midfielder's 88th minute goal gave Swansea their first league win over the Royals for 17 years.
