Past meetings: Swans v QPR

As Swansea City get set to face Queens Park Rangers at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, we take a look back at some of the London club’s previous visits to Wales.

Here we recall meetings in the Premier League, the Championship and the FA Cup.

Swans 2 QPR 0

Premier League – December 2, 2014

Goals from Ki Sung-Yueng and Wayne Routledge saw Garry Monk’s Swans move up to sixth in the Premier League.

Routledge, Kyle Bartley and Gylfi Sigurdsson all came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half, while an excellent save from Lukasz Fabianski prevented then QPR midfielder Leroy Fer from giving the away side the lead.

Home pressure eventually proved too much for Rangers as Wilfried Bony’s threaded pass found Ki, whose effort from the edge of the area went in off the post for his first Premier League goal at the Liberty Stadium.

Harry Redknapp's Hoops side searched for an equaliser but were caught out when Nathan Dyer found Routledge, who struck the ball into the bottom corner from 18 yards.

Swans boss Monk described his side’s performance as their most complete of the season.

Swans 4 QPR 1

Premier League – February 9, 2013

Michael Laudrup’s Swans got off to a flying start when QPR visited the Liberty Stadium in 2013, with goals from Michu and Angel Rangel making it 2-0 inside 18 minutes.

Bobby Zamora gave the visitors hope when he pulled a goal back after half-time, but Pablo Hernandez restored the Swans’ two-goal lead just a couple of minutes later, slotting past Julio Cesar in the Rangers goal.

Michu netted his second of the game – and fourth against Rangers that season – when he provided the final touch to a slick team move to seal a comfortable win.

Swans 2 QPR 0

Championship – October 3, 2009

Mark Gower and Lee Trundle were on the scoresheet as QPR had two men sent off at the Liberty Stadium in 2009.

This was the first time the Swans had beaten QPR in the league for almost 45 years.

Paulo Sousa’s side were struggling for goals having scored just two in their previous five games, and it looked like it may be another frustrating afternoon when the sides went in goalless at the break.

But a red card for Rangers midfielder Martin Rowlands boosted home hopes, and Gower converted a cross from Angel Rangel with 15 minutes left to play to make it 1-0.

Ben Watson’s second yellow card of the game proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Jim Magilton’s Rangers as Trundle netted for the second time in three games.

Swans 4 QPR 0

FA Cup – November 18, 2001

John Williams, Nick Cusack, Mamady Sidibe and Steve Watkin were all on the scoresheet as Colin Addison’s Swans upset QPR in the first round FA Cup.

The victory was a high point in a turbulent season for the Swans, who eventually finished 20th in the basement division.

They produced a supreme display to humble Ian Holloway’s Rangers, who were competing for promotion to the second tier at the time.

The Swans’ cup adventure ended in the second round, however, as they were knocked out at Macclesfield.
