As Swansea City prepare for a trip to Wigan on Tuesday night (7.45pm), we look back at some previous meetings between the clubs.

Here we recall past encounters in the Premier League and the old Division Three.

Wigan 2 Swans 3

Premier League – May 7, 2013

The Swans twice came from behind in a five-goal thriller as Michael Laudrup got the better of Roberto Martinez at the DW Stadium.

Roger Espinoza put the hosts in front just before half-time only for Angel Rangel to make it 1-1 early in the second period.

A fine finish from James McCarthy saw Wigan retake the lead, but Itay Shechter scored what would prove to be his only Swans goal to make it 2-2 just before the hour.

It was another unlikely goalscorer who secured victory for the Swans, as Dwight Tiendalli popped up to condemn relegation-bound Wigan to a costly home defeat.

Wigan 0 Swans 2

Premier League – March 3, 2012

Two stunning long-range efforts from Gylfi Sigurdsson gave the Swans an impressive win at Wigan in 2012.

The Icelandic playmaker, who had signed on loan from Hoffenheim, put the Swans 1-0 up on the verge of half-time with a curved effort from 25 yards.

His second goal was a ferocious free-kick in the second half.

And despite being reduced to 10 men when Nathan Dyer saw red for a high tackle on former team-mate Jordi Gomez, Brendan Rodgers’ side held on to claim all three points.

Wigan 2 Swans 4

Division Three – December 29, 1990

A second-half hat-trick from Jimmy Gilligan gave the Swans their third away win of the season in an entertaining encounter at Wigan’s old Springfield Park home.

The first period of the game ended goalless, but things livened up after the break.

Wigan took the lead early in the second period through Don Page, but Gilligan levelled and then Paul Raynor put the Swans ahead.

Darren Patterson made it 2-2 with 12 minutes remaining, but Gilligan struck twice late on to secure victory for the Swans.

Terry Yorath’s men would go on to win only two of their next 13 games, and finished the season four points above the relegation zone in 20th.
