Potter: Swans up for the Cup
Graham Potter says there is no chance of Swansea City treating the Emirates FA Cup lightly as they prepare to host Gillingham in the fourth round of the competition.
The Swans host the League One Gills - who are managed by Swansea old boy Steve Lovell - at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday looking to book their place in the fifth round for the second season in a row.
Victory over Sheffield United last weekend moved Potter's side up to ninth in the Championship table, and kept them within six points of the play-off places.
But Potter has no intention of solely prioritising Swansea's league fortunes, and has promised his side will be fully focused against a Gillingham team who knocked out Premier League Cardiff in the previous round.
"I don't think I can sit here as a Swansea City head coach or manager and say the FA Cup is not important," said the 43-year-old, whose side face Birmingham at the Liberty in the league on Tuesday.
"Of course, it is important to us. It is important to the players, the club and our supporters.
"We want to be competitive in every game and we want to develop that mentality going into the second half of the season that we want to win every game we play.
"Of course it is football, so you know you can lose, but the mentality should be that we want to go into the game and win, and that's what we will be trying to do at the weekend.
"We are not in a position where we can pick and choose.
"We have seen already in this competition that you can lose to anybody or you can beat anybody and that is what we need to respect and understand going into the weekend."
