Swansea City Under-21s return to Professional Development League action on Monday evening as they go head-to-head with Cardiff City in the south Wales derby at Landore Training Ground. (6pm kick-off).

The game is free for supporters to attend and gates to Landore will open at 5pm.

The Bluebirds have seen defeat three times in their last five league outings, and currently sit one place above the Swans in the southern section table.

In the reverse fixture, the young Bluebirds fought back to claim the three points with a 4-3 win over their 10-man opponents at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium.

The Swans were last in League action on January 9, when they secured a draw against Charlton Athletic, and will be keen to build on that result against their local rivals.

Pre-match views

Coach Anthony Wright: “We’ve had some time away from league action, but we’ve had some friendlies under our belt to get that important game time.

“There’s always a buzz in the atmosphere when we approach playing Cardiff, but it’s like any other game, really.

“It was an entertaining one back in Cardiff last year. We’ll just go in with our principles and style of play like we always do and we’re looking forward to it.”

The Swans suffered defeat the last time the two teams met in SA1.

The home side fell behind just three minutes into the game, Jai Semenyo capitalising on a misplaced pass before firing past Lewis Webb.

But just nine minutes later the Swans were level, Yan Dhanda’s powerful shot was saved, but Lincoln Mcfayden smashed the rebound past George Ratcliffe in the Cardiff goal.

However, the Swans trailed once again in the 29th minute. Eli King’s cross found the towering Chanka Zimba in the box who powered a header past Webb.

Swansea had chances to level again, but were punished for not taking those opportunities when a long ball forward was nodded on by Zimba abd sent Isaak Davies through one-on-one to find the net.
