Preview | Swansea City Women v Cardiff City Women
Swansea City Women return to the Swansea.com Stadium on Sunday as they host Cardiff City Women in the south Wales derby (5.10pm KO).
The Swans will look to get revenge on the Bluebirds, who picked up a 3-0 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium when the teams met back in September.
Swansea have been in great form in recent weeks however, winning their last five matches in a row since a defeat to Wrexham.
Cardiff have also enjoyed a positive sequence of results, currently finding themselves at the top of the Genero Adran Premier, level on points with Wrexham. They are undefeated in the last eight matches across all competitions, with their last loss coming on the opening day of the campaign.
Pre-match thoughts – Yzzy Taylor
“This week we have prepared well. We have really been able to focus our aims on both our in and out of possession stuff this week, and hopefully we can put in a complete performance on Sunday.
“The last few weeks have been really positive for us, we have had to show different sides of our game. We have scored a lot of goals in previous games but have also defended well when we have had to against The New Saints and Aberystwyth, so we are looking forward to another opportunity to demonstrate that.
“The south Wales derby adds that extra bit of fire and hopefully we can go and demonstrate the best side of ourselves.
“We are really excited to see everybody that comes out to support us this weekend. We know we will be playing against a very well-organised and disciplined team but hopefully we can show them a little bit of our character with having that added bonus of having plenty of fans in the stand as well.”
Previous meeting
A second-half goal from Stacey John earned Swansea City Women a 1-0 victory over the Bluebirds in their last meeting at the Swansea.com Stadium back in September 2024.
The Swans created several opportunities to take the lead in the first half, with Emily Thomas forcing Cerys Chamberlain into a save inside the opening 10 minutes, while Steph Turner was inches away from turning in a superb delivery from captain Katy Hosford.
It took just 10 minutes of the second half for the breakthrough to come, as John pounced on a loose ball, drove into the area, and fired past Chamberlain to give the hosts the advantage.
The Swans continued to push for a second, while at the other end, Jess Williams produced a crucial late defensive intervention to deny Eliza Collie an equaliser, ensuring the Swans extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
