Swans Women vs Cwmbran Celtic

Swansea City Women will look to reach their first Bute Energy Welsh Cup final since 2018 when they face Cwmbran Celtic at Jenner Park this afternoon (2pm kick-off).

The Swans have a chance to end an eight-year wait to reach the showpiece final, having defeated Cardiff City 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium to lift the trophy on that occasion.

Yzzy Taylor’s side booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 victory over Aberystwyth Town, before following it up with a 10-0 win over CPDM Llanystumdwy and a 6-0 triumph over Llandudno FC to reach the last four.

They also head into the match in excellent form, currently on a six-game winning streak in all competitions, scoring 34 goals during that run.

Cwmbran Celtic arrive in strong form as well, unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions and having already claimed the scalp of Genero Adran Premier side Briton Ferry Llansawel in the quarter-finals.

Dan Sheehan

Swansea City Women assistant head coach Dan Sheehan: “We’re really excited to get going. We go into the game off the back of six wins, so there’s a lot of confidence in the camp and we want to hit the ground running.

“We know it’s going to be tough. Having come from the league that Cwmbran play in, I know they’ll be physical and well organised, so it’s important for us to match that first before imposing our principles and stamping our authority on the game.

“We’d love to be able to lift the trophy at the end of the season. For us as players and staff, winning trophies is what makes football special, and hopefully we can create some more great memories for the players, our fans and the club.”

Midfielder Chloe Chivers:“It’s a game we’re all really looking forward to. We know Cwmbran are a good side and they certainly can’t be underestimated, especially after knocking out a Genero Adran Premier team in Briton Ferry.

“We’ll approach it the same way we approach every game. It’s a brilliant opportunity for us to potentially reach the final and give ourselves the chance to win a piece of silverware.”
