Swansea City Under-18s were handed their first league defeat of the season as they were beaten 3-0 at Charlton Athletic Under-18s.

The Swans had the chance to jump above second-placed Charlton in the table with a victory, but Daniel Kany’s first-half finish and goals after the break from Jason Adigon and Henry Rylah earned the home side victory.

Swansea started the game positively with Cameron Congreve breaking through the Charlton defence, but his low effort was dragged wide.

The Swans went close again through Richard Faakye, but his powerful header from a Charlie Veevers cross was well saved by Ahmed Kone.

Nathan Assimwe almost opened the scoring, his curling long range effort clipping the top of the Swansea crossbar.

But it was the home side who broke the deadlock. Faakye was tackled on the edge of his box, and the ball broke allowing Kany through one-on-one for a simple finish.

Veevers almost found an equaliser early in the second half, his long-range free-kick forcing a good save out of Kone.

The Swans continued to push for an equaliser, and sub Aimar Grovea’s low effort was held well by the goalkeeper.

But the Addicks doubled their lead through Adigon. Ben Hughes made a great save to prevent Ryan Huke, but he couldn’t stop the rebound from Adigon.

Charlton ensured they claimed all three points with three minutes to go. A short corner caught the Swansea defence sleeping, giving Rylah an easy tap in to seal the game.

Swansea City Under-18s are in action again next Saturday when they welcome Millwall to Landore.
