Report: Swans 0 Crystal Palace 1

First team

A youthful Swansea City exited the Carabao Cup but gave Premier League Crystal Palace a scare at the Liberty Stadium.

Graham Potter handed out seven debuts - five from the start - during this second-round tie which was settled by Alexander Sorloth's 70th-minute goal.
But the result didn't reflect the effort put in by Potter's youngsters, who had an average age of under 23 in the starting XI.
With 10 changes made to the starting XI which lined up against Bristol City last time out, Potter handed academy youngsters Cian Harries, Brandon Cooper, George Byers and Courtney Baker-Richardson their debuts, while deadline-day signing Declan John made his maiden appearance.
Yan Dhanda and Daniel James both made first senior starts, while Tyler Reid and Liam Cullen came off the bench for their debuts.
Keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt returned from injury to captain the team, while recent loan signing Cameron Carter-Vickers missed out through injury.
It was the young Swans who made the better start, with the lively James firing high and wide after cutting into the box following Matt Grimes' quickly-taken free-kick.
At the other end, 18-year-old centre-back Brandon Cooper did well to deflect Sorloth's strike from Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cros.
The Swans, though, kept plugging away and they went close to taking the lead after 20 minutes.
Dhanda collected a return pass from Byers, and the former saw his shot saved before Baker-Richardson sliced the loose ball wide.
After the break, Potter's side kept knocking on the door and James drilled wide before being denied after a neat pass from Dhanda.
But Palace made the breakthrough with 20 minutes to go as Sorloth turned his marker and fired past Nordfeldt for his first Palace goal.
The Swedish keeper then denied Palace a second as his fine reflex save kept out Sullay Kaikai's effort.
Cullen, on for Baker-Richardson, had a chance to level in added on time, but he could only head Dhanda's cross over the crossbar.
