REPORT: Swans U23s 0 Liverpool U23s 2

11th August

Swansea City Under-23s suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on the opening night of the Premier League 2 season at Landore.

Goals from Danny Ings and Yan Dhanda proved the difference on a what was a testing evening for the young Swans.

Liverpool striker Ings - making his comeback from a cruciate ligament injury - volleyed home the opener inside ten minutes before Dhanda sealed all three points for the visitors midway through the second half.

Ings, who was vibrant in the opening 45 minutes, was denied early on by the impressive Gregor Zabret, before exacting revenge on the Slovenian stopper when he lashed home a well-taken volley in the 10th minute.

Zabret was again on hand to prevent Dhanda from extending the visiting side’s lead, before George Byers went desperately close to levelling the scores before half-time.

Tyler Reid blazed over the bar from 18 yards shortly after the break, prior to Dhanda making it 2-0 to Liverpool in the 65th minute.

In truth, it could have been worse for the Swans, had it not been for the heroics of Zabret, who did superbly to save late efforts from Toni Gomes and Dhanda.
