Report | Swansea City 1 Millwall 1
Zan Vipotnik netted his sixth goal of the season but Swansea City were denied all three points as they shared the spoils with Millwall at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Vipotnik had given the hosts an early lead when he turned in Ronald’s shot at the end of a flowing Swansea attack, but they were pegged back when Josh Coburn levelled on the stroke of half-time.
Zeidane Inoussa had hit the post for the Swans in the first half, while the home side were also left frustrated that they were not awarded a penalty when Vipotnik appeared to be hauled down in the box during the closing stages.
The result means Swansea are now unbeaten in 11 home games, but they will be disappointed they were not able to build on an opening half-hour where they looked to have control of the contest.
The Swans had shown one change from the defeat at Birmingham City as Malick Yalcouye came in for Goncalo Franco in midfield while, on the bench, the fit-again Jay Fulton was preferred to Melker Widell.
The home side were on the front foot from the off, and Zan Vipotnik had a goalbound blocked away for a corner by Tristan Crama after Yalcouye had laid the ball off to the Slovenian near the edge of the area.
Millwall responded, Aidomo Emakhu breaking into the area but unable to pick out a teammate in the box.
But the Swans took the lead after a flowing attacking move ended with Inoussa picking out Ronald. The Brazilian’s low angled shot came to Vipotnik who deftly turned in his sixth goal of the season.
At the other end, Will Smallbone sent a low shot just wide of the target, while Ethan Galbraith swung a looping effort of his own past the woodwork at the other end.
Moments later the Swans struck the woodwork, Inoussa angling a drive across goal after Josh Tymon had surged into the box, but his effort flicked the outside of the post on its way out.
Swansea were in the ascendancy, but they had a let-off when Smallbone latched onto a pass and was able to carry the ball into the penalty area where he fired high and wide, before Lawrence Vigouroux gathered in a low strike from Derek Mazou-Sacko.
A wonderful lofted through ball from Marko Stamenic nearly allowed Vipotnik a sight of a second goal of the afternoon as half-time neared, but the next big chance went the way of the visitors, with Ben Cabango making a terrific challenge inside the six-yard box to prevent Coburn turning in Emakhu’s cross.
That looked to have preserved Swansea’s lead until at least the interval, but the Lions levelled matters in the final moments as Coburn nodded in from close range after Jake Cooper had met a deep free-kick delivery.
The start of the second half was a stop-start affair and, one Josh Key run and cross aside, there was little flow to the contest, which suited the visitors more than the hosts.
An extended period of treatment for Emakhu, who was then deemed fit enough to continue, further disrupted proceedings as the hour mark came and went.
Swansea had a chance to break when a Millwall set-piece cannoned to Galbraith, but his pass for Ronald allowed Crama to clear up the danger for the visitors.
The first clear opportunity of the half fell to Ronald after slick build-up and a good lay-off from Vipotnik, but the Brazilian blazed over the bar.
Cabango then made a second brilliant intervention of the game as he blocked a Macaulay Langstaff effort with Vigouroux out of his goal before the moment of controversy arrived.
Tymon got in down the left and played the ball in with Vipotnik primed to finish, but the Slovenian appeared to have his shirt pulled by Jake Cooper which prevented him from converting, but the referee waved away Swansea appeals.
There was still time for more drama as Vipotnik's low shot was only parried by Steven Benda.
The keeper reached out to regather as Adam Idah bore down on him, and was adjudged to have had two hands on the ball before the Swansea striker booted it from his grasp and found the net.
