Swansea City Ladies sealed their spot in the second round of the FAW Women’s Cup after a comprehensive victory over Welsh Women’s League side Dafen Ladies.

Six goals from Katy Hosford, four from Emma Beynon and a goal each for Alicia Powe, Kate Searle and Ria Hughes put the Swans in the hat for the next round.

Swansea found themselves a goal to the good with just six minutes on the clock.

Hosford played in Beynon, which then allowed the midfielder to cut in onto her right foot and fire into the top-right corner of the net.

The lead was doubled after Beynon’s strike cannoned back off the post for Hosford to convert with the rebound.

On the half-hour mark, Hosford bagged her second of the afternoon and the Swans’ third. A switch of play across the pitch allowed Lani Hogben to find Hosford in the box for an easy finish.

Ian Owen’s side added their fourth of the afternoon after Beynon and Hosford linked up once more; a simple pass from Beynon to an unmarked Hosford allowed the midfielder a simple tap-in

Just before the interval, captain Powe got in on the act. The centre-back found a yard of space on the edge of the box, and she caught her strike sweetly to beat Dafen keeper Claire Morgan.

After the break, Beynon’s long through ball over the top of the defence found Searle, who kept her nerve and slotted it into the bottom corner to score her first goal for the club.

Moments after, the Swans further added to their tally. Shaunna Jenkins picked out Beynon in the area and she coolly volleyed it home.

Beynon made it eight just after the hour mark, completing her hat-trick. She was the quickest to react after Hosford’s low, drilled strike was fumbled by Morgan and tapped in.

Swansea were piling on the pressure, and Hughes converted a Sara Adams’ cross before turning provider as Hosford took the score into double digits.

The winger added another immediately; her drilled shot had too much power for the Dafen goalkeeper to deal with despite getting a strong hand on it.

Beynon finished off her hat-trick when she kept calm and casually rolled the ball into the far corner.

Hosford topped off a five-star performance for herself and the Swans when she tapped in from point-blank range in the closing stages.

The Swans have been drawn at home to Aberdare Town FC in the second round.
