Report | Swansea City U18s 3 Cardiff City U18s 1

21st September

Swansea City Under-18s made a winning start to their Professional Development League season after coming from behind to beat Cardiff City at Landore on Saturday.

Goals from Josh Thomas, Cameron Congreve and Morgan Clarke ensured the young Swans collected maximum points in their first game under the guidance of Anthony Wright and Darran Jones.

After a couple of early scares, the hosts fell behind in the 10th minute to a James Crole penalty.

However, they responded well and were level just 15 minutes later when Thomas – scorer of seven goals for the under-18s last term – opened his account for the campaign.

And the turnaround was completed in the 71st minute. Having made his under-23s debut in their victory over Cardiff on Monday, first-year scholar Congreve capped a memorable week with a brilliant free-kick past Jaimie Cogman.

The Swans then sealed the points just four minutes later as Clarke slotted home from the penalty spot after substitute Michael Murphy was brought down in the box.

The under-18s are back in action next Saturday, when they entertain Bristol City at Landore.
