Routledge: We got our reward

Wayne Routledge felt Swansea City got their reward after sealing a comeback win over Sheffield Wednesday at the Liberty.

The Swans fell behind to sub Marco Matias’s strike just past the hour mark, but two goals in as many minutes from Routledge and Bersant Celina earned Graham Potter’s side victory at a rain-drenched Liberty.

It came on the back of the victory at Brentford the previous week – a game in which Routledge also scored.

And the winger believes his team-mates got exactly what they deserved after showing great determination against the Owls.

“We kept going in the second half, took our chances and came away with the three points,” said Routledge.

“We have a really good team spirit here. Even when we go behind, we’re not going to give up. We’re going to chase everything, and we got our rewards.

“It was difficult to break them down, but we did create chances and got the ball in the right areas. We were just unable to put it in the back of the net up until the goals.”

Having scored twice in as many matches, Routledge is enjoying a fine run of form under Potter.

And the 33-year-old is happy to be playing his part as the Swans enter a busy festive period.

“It’s a nice feeling to be playing football again and helping the team achieve six points in two games,” added Routledge.

“It just shows the strength in depth we have in the squad when you look at the players that aren’t in the starting XI. But, when they come on, they’re more than ready to make an impact like Bersant did on Saturday.

“Games come thick and fast during the Christmas period, but we’re going into it with two wins and a good feeling. Hopefully, we can continue that.”
