Russell Martin has confirmed Ben Cabango is set to be involved in Swansea City’s squad for the Championship opener at Rotherham, following a successful return from an ankle injury.

The Wales defender played 60 minutes as the club’s under-21s defeated Brentford B on Saturday, getting his first game time since suffering his injury in April’s draw with Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old’s recovery has progressed well, and the decision was taken not to include him for the first-team friendly at Charlton given he would be able to get more minutes under his belt with the development squad.

And Cabango is now set to make the travelling party for the clash with the Millers at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“The plan is for Ben to be involved at Rotherham in some capacity,” said head coach Martin.

“We will not take any risks with him.

“But he has worked really hard, as have the medical team, in getting to a really good place in his recovery and with his conditioning.

"We thought about bringing him here [Charlton] to get a few minutes because he wasn't ready to play the full 90, so it's that or getting 60 minutes with the Under-21s.

"He played with a few other guys there - Brandon Cooper, Jordon Garrick - so I think it'll be really good for him. He'll be involved next week. I don't know in what capacity yet.”
