Swans hope for double boost

Graham Potter is hoping for a double injury boost this weekend with Leroy Fer and Bersant Celina battling to be fit to face Queens Park Rangers.

Fer has been out since the victory at Millwall on September 1 after being forced off in the first half at The Den because of a groin problem.

And Celina has missed the Swans’ last two matches after a poor tackle from Nottingham Forest’s Saidy Janko left him with damaged ankle ligaments.

However, the injured pair have returned to training this week and Potter has fingers crossed that both will be in contention for Saturday’s home clash with QPR.

“They’ve both been making good progress,” said the Swans manager.

“Hopefully, they will have had enough training and be available for selection on Saturday.”

Club skipper Fer missed the start of the season because of a long-term Achilles problem, but has shown in his brief appearances to date in 2018-19 what an influential performer he can be.

And Celina, a summer signing from Manchester City, had played every minute of league action for his new club until he was withdrawn at half-time in the Forest game.

The Swans were seriously short on midfield resources when they went to Stoke last week, but Tom Carroll and Jay Fulton returned to the fold last weekend after injury issues.

And Potter will have all his midfield options at his disposal should Fer and Celina return for the QPR game.
