Swans sign youngster Withers

31st January

Swansea City have signed promising youngster Jack Withers from non-league club Boston United.

The 6ft 4in centre-back has signed an 18-month deal but will return to Boston to spend the rest of the season on loan.

Withers, who has been in Boston’s youth system for the past two years, will continue his development with his former club before linking up with the Swans’ youth ranks in the summer.

Meanwhile, Swans Under-23s goalkeeper Lewis Thomas has joined Welsh Premier League side Carmarthen Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who has been with the Swans’ academy since he was eight, has featured seven times for the club’s development side.

Thomas helped the young Swans to a crucial 4-3 Premier League Cup victory over Colchester United last week.

Meanwhile, under-23s trio Jack Bainbridge, Tom Plezier and Anthony Brydges have ended their contracts and left the club.
