Swansea City midfielder Jacob Cook was included in the Wales Under-16s’ 21-man squad for the Uefa Development Tournament hosted in North Wales earlier this month.

Denbigh Town, Colliers Park and Essity Stadium were the venues which showcased the best young talent in matches between Wales, Brazil, Turkey, and Spain in a four-nation tournament.

The opening clash between hosts Wales and invited CONMEBOL side Brazil on April 9 drew a crowd of more than 1,000 fans and was also shown live on Sgorio.

Cook made an appearance off the bench in that match which ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat for the hosts, but started in both the eight-goal thriller against Turkey - which ended in 4-4 draw - and the fantastic 2-2 draw with eventual tournament winners Spain.

“Jacob really enjoyed his time away with Wales, it is a real honour to represent your country and we are all really proud of him," said Ricky King, Swansea City Under-16s' coach.

“The experience you gain from playing in big games against teams like Turkey, Spain and Brazil allows you to see another level of speed of play, which moving forward will only help him transition up through our system.

"In addition to this, the ability to deal with the extra pressure that these games give you will have helped him to develop the coping strategies you need in these situations.

“The confidence this has given him since returning has translated into a positive influence on the rest of the squad as he has bought a new energy into the group which has helped to drive the standards in every training session.”
