Swansea City Under-18s Norwich Premier League South
28th November
A second-half strike from substitute Brandon Griffiths helped Swansea City Under-18s to a 3-2 win in an action packed game at Landore on Saturday.
The scholars got off to a flying start when a deflected shot by winger Causso Darame looped over Norwich's keeper to give the Swans a second minute lead.
Norwich hit back seven minutes later when frontman Bernard Ashley-Seal tapped home a teasing cross from the left flank.
The U18s re-took the lead four minutes into the restart when defender Conor Quigley headed home a corner.
Swansea continued to pressurise Norwich's defence and extended their lead five minutes later when a Liam Cullen ball found Brandon Griffiths to fire home his curling effort from outside the area.
Todd Cantwell pulled a goal back for Norwich from the penalty spot on the hour mark before Swans midfielder Jack Evans saw red for a second booking in the 89th minute.
And the young Swans should have extended their lead in stoppage time only for full-back Aaron Lewis penalty to hit the crossbar.
Despite that, U18s coach Chris Llewellyn said he was delighted with the performance that earned the Under-18s their second win of the season in Premier League South.
"It was a very good performance where the team earned the win," he said.
"We were disappointed with the way we played during spells against Fulham last week but to recover with a fighting display this weekend is pleasing.
"We played with tempo and pressed Norwich all over the pitch, created chances and took our opportunities to score some great goals.
"We made a few changes ahead of this match, Brandon (Griffiths) was disappointed not to start but myself and Eric (Ramsay) asked him to make an impact from the bench which he did with a superb third goal."
An Under-19s side next face Cardiff City in the 3rd round of the FAW Youth Cup on Thursday, December 3 (7pm).
And Llewellyn encouraged the young side to continue their winning momentum this week.
"Thursday is a big game for us as we look to defend our youth cup title," he added.
"It is important we continue the same level of performance against Cardiff this week.
"Our result against Norwich will give us a confidence boost heading into that match as we enter a busy period of league and cup action."
