A fighting display from Swansea City Under-18s could not prevent the young side losing 3-1 at Tottenham in Premier League South on Saturday afternoon.
The scholars found themselves two goals behind after 25 minutes but fought back to create a number of chances.
Midfielder Jack Watts fired wide before Jordan Jones' powerful effort was tipped round the post by Brandon Austin in the Spurs' goal. Defender Mael Davies then saw his close range shot well saved from the resulting corner.
The Swans did pull a goal back before half-time when Liam Edwards teed up Aaron Lewis to slot home inside the area.
Despite Swansea's chances, Tottenham netted their third when striker Aramide Oteh tapped home via the post five minutes before the break.
The U18s continued to fight to get back into the game in the second half as substitute Causso Darame's bursting run into the box was cut out by the legs of Spurs' keeper before midfielder Jack Watts tested Austin from a Liam Cullen cross on 70 minutes.
And despite further chances that saw the Swans hit the post when Darame turned his man inside the area, the scholars could not find the back of the net again before the full-time whistle.
U18s coach Chris Llewellyn believes the Swans side deserved more from the game.
"The performance overall was very good," he said. "We created plenty of chances which has been lacking in previous games.
"As a team we are disappointed because we feel that it is a game we should have got something from.
"We had six or seven clear cut chances we should have scored while their three were all preventable. On another day would could have won.
"As I have said before this season, we need to be more clinical and start turning these chances into goals.
"Today was our best performance in terms of creating chances - we were always looking to threaten and to score.
"There are still positives to take. We will keep building and move on to next week and our game at home to West Ham."
