Toshack targets cup success

15th April

Cameron Toshack is targeting cup success when Swansea City Academy face The New Saints at the Liberty Stadium in the final of the FAW Youth Cup on Wednesday night (7pm).

The young Swans are aiming to be crowned winners of the domestic trophy for the fifth consecutive year after seeing off rivals Cardiff City 3-1 in last month's semi-final.

A wonder goal by Josh Sheehan, plus strikes by Ryan Hedges and Kyle Copp helped the Swans reach Wednesday night's final.

Meanwhile, TNS overcame Llandudno in their respective last-four fixture, beating their North Walian opponents 1-0 after extra-time.

Supporters that attend the Liberty on Wedneday night are in for an exciting showpiece event, of which Toshack feels will be a fantastic opportunity for his young players.

"I think it's a great opportunity for all of the boys," said the Under-18s coach. "Everyone is chomping at the bit to play.

"It's great for the football club to be associated with this trophy. It means a lot to the academy, as well as the club.

"But we're not taking anything for granted. We are preparing as well as we can do.

"I have been to see TNS play in their semi-final against Llandudno. They have some very good players, so it will not be an easy game.

"Steve Evans will set his team up to be difficult to beat, and they will come out all guns blazing.

"We will have to really assert ourselves, not just from a tactical and technical perspective, but also in our desire and application.

"We will need to be professional and disciplined in our approach.

"We are very much looking forward to it. At this stage of their development, it will be a great experience for the boys.

"With supporters watching, on a Premier League pitch at the Liberty Stadium, it is a great opportunity"

Tickets for the match can be purchased on the night at the Liberty Stadium and are priced at £4 for adults, £2 for senior citizens, while under-16s can enter for FREE.
