U18s complete double over Brighton

31st March

Swansea City Under-18s achieved back-to-back league victories over Brighton as they saw off the Seagulls 2-0 at Fairwood on Saturday.

Following Cameron Toshack's side's 2-1 win in Brighton two weeks ago, goals from Kyle Copp and Alex Samuel ensured the young Swans completed a league double over their opponents.

In truth, the visitors began the match on the front foot as they put the Swans under pressure during the early exchanges.

But the U18s defended resolutely and were rewarded for their resilience when Copp capped off a superb flowing move to put the Swans in front, just after the half-hour mark.

The young Swans passed the ball from back-to-front as Lewis Moore started the move from a goal-kick before Copp finished off at the opposite end.

Midway through the second-half, Toshack's side doubled their lead when Alex Samuel produced a superb solo effort to put the result beyond doubt.

And, as well as the result, Toshack was impressed with how his side defended against a strong passing side.

"It was great to get the clean sheet, as well as the win" said the U18s coach. "It's a great confidence booster for our defensive unit.

"Brighton are the best passing team that we've played, so to keep a clean sheet against a side like that is a real positive for us.

"For the first 15 minutes, it was a difficult start for us. They started very brightly, but we have worked on being compact and difficult to break down when we struggle to keep the ball.

"The boys showed a lot of character and discipline to keep their shape when they might have gone haring into challenges.

"Then we grew into the game and scored two great goals through Kyle and Alex, who are both doing really well for us from an offensive point of view.

"Overall, we are pleased with the win and the progress we are making. Hopefully we can continue that improvement into the final three games of the season."
