Vitor Matos pleased with assured away display

Vitor Matos was proud of the effort levels on show from his Swansea City side after they extended their unbeaten away run to four matches with a 1-1 draw at in-form Norwich City.

The Swans had looked to be on course for victory at Carrow Road when Zan Vipotnik scored his 25th goal of the season early in the second half; netting from the penalty spot after he had been pulled down in the area.

But the Canaries would level late on through a spot-kick of their own; Kenny McLean converting after referee Thomas Parsons adjudged that Lawrence Vigouroux had fouled Mathias Kvistgaarden when the pair had been preparing to go for a deflected cross.

Nevertheless, it was another assured away showing from the Swans and a performance that Matos was proud of given the quick turnaround from Tuesday's win at Queens Park Rangers, although he did not agree with the awarding of the penalty that led to the Norwich equaliser.

"Their goal comes from a situation we cannot control, that is the referee's assessment even though I do not believe that should be a penalty," he said.

"But in terms of the performance I am really proud of the team.

"We are putting in so much effort at this moment at the end of a long season, and we are still showing resilience, professionalism and the right mentality.

"That is what we wanted to see, and that is showing the steps we are making in terms of our culture.

"We knew this was a game where we would need to understand the moments to press, we did that well in moments, and then we maybe just needed to have a bit more control in moments with the ball to find the man in space at the right moments.

"We grew into the game with that, and we started the second half much better with that, it was an intense game against a really good team so to come here and have this performance after all the travelling this week means I am really proud of the boys and they deserve all the credit."

There were just over 500 members of the Jack Army in attendance in East Anglia for what was the final away trip of a gruelling campaign. The travelling Jacks rack up the second-highest cumulative miles of any supporters in the Championship, and Matos spoke of the gratitude he and the players have for their efforts in journeying in such numbers.

"I think it is an incredible effort, and at these away games they are the soul of us as a team and a club," he added.

"We are always trying to give them a proper performance because that is what they deserve.

"They are just incredible, we know how far this journey is to come here and to have them there to support us like that was unbelievable."
