Vitor Matos was pleased to see his Swansea City side round off the 2025-26 season with a positive performance and result as they secured a dominant 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans were in control of the game for the majority of the afternoon, and deservedly took the lead when substitute Adam Idah smashed home a cutback from Josh Key.

Miles Leaburn soon headed home an equaliser for the Addicks, but Idah restored Swansea’s lead when debutant Thomas Woodward set the striker up for another firm finish.

Leo Walta then put the icing on the cake with a wonderful free-kick, opening his goalscoring account for the Swans with a brilliant strike from 25 yards.

All of which meant the Swans ended the season in 11th place, but with a sense of real momentum after an encouraging second half to the season.

“I think it was a good performance and a good game against a team that loves to compete, and will always fight to stay in the game,” said Matos.

“I felt we dominated the game from the beginning. We knew we needed to be really calm with the ball, because we know they like to try and create a rush with long balls, second balls and set-pieces.

“We managed to do that, I felt we could have played with a higher tempo in some moments but we did stay calm and stayed in the game.

“It’s becoming clearer and clearer what we want to be in terms of our identity, wanting to control more with the ball.

“Of course there will be games where we need to be able to adapt, where we need to control more with the ball, some games we will need to rely much more on our press or counter-press.

“But you can see the balance is getting there, of course the season has finished so it is time for everyone to have a break and be ready to push for the next one.”

And Matos had particular words of praise for the goalscorers, and academy product Woodward.

“It was really nice to see Leo scoring, what an incredible set-piece that was from him,”

“Then Adam showed real physicality, we know that is something he has and they were two brilliant finishes as well.

“Then for Woody to get on and get an assist was really great. I am so pleased for him, and we have always said the academy is going to be so important for us."
