Leroy Fer believes Swansea City can take heart from success in the Emirates FA Cup following Wednesday’s third-round replay victory over Wolves.

Jordan Ayew put the Swans ahead against Wolves with a dazzling individual goal only for Diogo Jota’s clever finish to bring the Championship leaders level.

But Wilfried Bony struck his third of the season to end Wolves’ 14-game unbeaten run.

The Swans’ victory sets up a fourth-round tie against League Two promotion contenders Notts County at Meadow Lane a week on Saturday.

And Fer reckons a run in the cup can give build confidence for the Swans’ Premier League survival fight.

“Wolves was a good victory for us,” the midfielder said.

“We needed to finish the game in the first half. We didn’t do that, but we showed great character to come back after they scored.

“Now we can look forward to our game against Notts County in the fourth round.

“It is a great opportunity for us to try to get another win and continue to progress in the FA Cup this season.”

Before the Notts County trip, the Swans are in Premier League action against Liverpool on Monday night.

Carlos Carvalhal’s team face a Reds side who are in supreme form, but the Swans go into the match with some optimism having improved under their new boss.

“We want to keep winning games,” Fer added.

“The Wolves result is a good boost for us. We also played a good game against Newcastle last weekend and probably could have got the win there.

“We have seen improvements in the last few weeks and are playing better, so there is plenty of confidence to take into our game against Liverpool.”
