Young Swans edge out Brighton

Swansea City Under-18s ran out 2-1 victors over Brighton & Hove Albion at Culver Road on Wednesday night.

The young Swans bounced back from their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend to beat the Seagulls, courtesy of strikes from Kyle Copp and Pau Morer.

Cameron Toshack's side took a first-half lead through Kyle Copp before Pau Morer produced a superb solo effort from 30-yards to double the Swans' advantage on 67 minutes.

The hosts clawed one back through Maguire Drew with six minutes left on the clock, but the Swans youngsters were able to hold out to claim all three points on their travels.

Speaking after the game, Toshack was pleased with his side's performance.

"We've lost a couple of games recently, but against Brighton it all gelled together, so it was very pleasing," said the U18s boss. "The boys acquitted themselves very well. 

"We have set the group a few new challenges over the past few weeks in relation to their intensity and game management, and they did very well in the most part. 

"There's still work we need to do, but there are some really positive signs there. 

"I thought Alex Samuel made a number of great breaks forward - his physical presence in the centre forward position caused them problems - and he created some opportunities for himself, which I am sure, on another day, he would have taken."

And the U18s boss is hoping his young side can take the confidence they gained from Wednesday night's triumph into this weekend's fixture against Charlton.

"It's about development, but winning games helps everyone's confidence," added Toshack. 

"We have Charlton away on Saturday, who will give us a different test. They will ask us different questions in that they will be physical with one or two technically gifted players.

"But the different types of teams we play gives our players the opportunity to show they can respond to different challenges. It drives their development."
