Yzzy Taylor | We had our opportunities
Head coach Yzzy Taylor felt her Swansea City Women side paid the price for the game becoming stretched in the final half-hour as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Cardiff City Women at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The Swans enjoyed much the better of the opening hour, and deservedly led when Aimee Deacon turned in an Emily Thomas cross at the near post.
Deacon, Chloe Chivers and Stacey John had all had earlier chances for the hosts, who also saw Taite Trivett go close late on.
But Cardiff responded as Helen Evans steered in a cross at the near post, before Mikayla Cook’s free-kick gave the reigning Genero Adran Premier champions the lead with 10 minutes to go.
And Lily Billingham then secured the three points as she netted in the final moments of stoppage time.
The final scoreline was harsh on the home side, and Taylor acknowledged the tenor of the game had changed during the final half-hour.
“We had a gameplan that I believe the players really bought into, and we were able to demonstrate that well today,” she said.
“I think as it went into that last half an hour of the game, opportunities started cropping up and gaps started to appear and they exploited some of the spaces we left them.
“We were really impressed with how we delivered on so much of what we wanted to do, and how we achieved it in how we scored that first goal.
“But we will definitely go back and have a look and see where we came undone.
“We felt we had the profile to press them and get opportunities from that, and I think that gameplan proved effective, but we will just have a look at things we can tweak and improve on.”
