Swansea City Women’s manager Yzzy Taylor was proud of the resilience her side showed against an organised Briton Ferry Llansawel Women outfit as they secured a 3-1 victory in their final phase one fixture at the The Renewable Centre Stadium.

The Swans took the lead inside six minutes through an excellent strike from Sammy Wynne, but were pegged back five minutes later when Lucy Powell converted from the penalty spot. It proved to be a competitive first half, with neither side able to fully control proceedings, although both created opportunities to take the lead before the break.

Taylor’s side delivered a more composed and controlled performance in the second half, starting strongly and scoring twice in a 12-minute spell through Aimee Deacon and Taite Trivett to secure the victory and extend their winning run to five matches in all competitions.

The result sees Swansea conclude phase one on 30 points, sitting four behind Wrexham Women and five adrift of leaders Cardiff City Women.

Taylor was pleased with how her side responded after conceding the penalty and stressed the importance of carrying momentum into phase two. While acknowledging the consistency shown in recent performances, she emphasised that preparation will be key to making a positive start to the next phase of the campaign.

“I’m really proud of the girls for showing resilience in the second half to make sure we secured the three points and rounded off phase one the right way.

"We started the game well and scored early, but conceding the penalty five minutes later meant we had to regain our composure and look to combine properly to cause them problems.

"We knew Briton Ferry would be organised and tenacious in their approach, so credit to them for their performance - that makes the result even more pleasing for us." She added.

"We spoke about finishing Phase One in the best way possible. We’ve reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup and secured a top-four spot in the league, so there’s a lot to be positive about heading into Phase Two. The consistency we’ve shown in recent weeks will drive us on, but we know we need to prepare properly for the challenges ahead, starting with Wrexham on Sunday.

"We’ll recover well and make sure everyone is in the best possible place for the match. We know they’ll be a tough test, but we’ll prepare thoroughly and look to start Phase Two with a positive result."

Taylor was also delighted for midfielder Wynne to open her league account for the season, highlighting the important role she plays in laying the foundations for Swansea’s attacks - whether that’s winning the ball back in midfield or showing her quality further up the pitch, as she did today.

"We’ve got great squad depth, and Sammy is a big part of that. She brings so much to the team and does a lot of the work that often goes unnoticed. I was really pleased for her to get a goal today. It was a quality finish and gave us a strong start.”
