Lenny Johnrose – the scorer of a key goal in Swansea City’s vital win over Hull 20 years ago – sadly passed away in August 2022 at the age of just 52, following a brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
As we look back on that dramatic day from 2003, we would like to share with you all a series of tributes from Lenny’s former manager and team-mates at Swansea City.
Swansea City has seen a lot in the last 20 years.
An improbable rise from the bottom tier to the heights of the Premier League, victories over Manchester United, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, major silverware and European adventure.
Yet it is no exaggeration to say that none of those moments would have been possible were it not for the events of May 3, 2003. Twenty years ago today.
That afternoon a team scrabbled together and rebuilt during the course of the 2002-03 season faced Hull City with Swansea’s place in the Football League at stake.
This is the story of that team and their great escape.
