Flynn Downes | Grimesy and I complement each other well
Flynn Downes is relishing the opportunity to play alongside Swansea city captain Matt Grimes and feels that they have developed a strong partnership on the field.
Downes joined the Swans from Ipswich Town this summer and has made a strong start to life at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The 22-year-old is consistently one of the best passers of the ball in the Championship this season, with a 92.8% pass success rate this season, the highest in the league.
Downes has made eight Championship appearances so far this season, all of which have been alongside Grimes in the midfield.
The midfielder says that both he and Grimes have a good understanding on the pitch, and they understand how to get the best out of each other.
“Personally, I have really enjoyed playing alongside Grimes, and I think he has enjoyed playing alongside me too,” said Downes.
“We have a big responsibility in the team, I try to give him the freedom to go and do what he wants.
“He is an unbelievable player and you want your best players to have the best chance of showing what they can do.
“I am loving it, I like the deeper role and that responsibility and I think we are growing in understanding all the time. We complement each other well.”
