New Swansea City signing Freddie Woodman says the warmth of the welcome he has received since his loan move means he already feels right at home in SA1.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper made his debut for the Swans in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Hull City, just two days after completing his season-long switch from parent club Newcastle.

The England Under-20 World Cup winner enjoyed an assured debut, all the more impressive given the quick turnaround since his arrival.

But it has not taken long for Woodman to feel comfortable and confident in his new surroundings.

“I thought it was brilliant at the Liberty. I’ve been made so welcome by everyone here – staff, players and fans,” he said.

“The reception I got was fantastic. It gave me shivers going out there. All I wanted to do was play well for them because they’ve been so welcoming.

“I feel like I did well and the team did really well.

“In terms of settling in, it’s probably been one of the best places that I’ve come to. That’s credit to the club. They’ve been absolutely brilliant, the fans and the players have been great. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to come in and settle straight away.

“I thought I’d never get down driving from Newcastle; it took me about seven hours! I finally got here. It was just great to get out on the grass and play football. I just love playing the game. I was out there today enjoying every single minute.

“I look forward to going into training every day. It’s a fantastic place to work. The training ground is unbelievable. I’m really excited.”
