Jay Fulton opened his account for Wigan as they moved them closer to the League One automatic promotion spots following a 3-0 win at Walsall.

The midfieler, who joined the Latics on loan in January, doubled the visitors' lead with a stunning 20-yard effort.

It was his first goal for the club in only his second league start, with Wigan sitting in third place - two points off leaders Blackburn Rovers with two games in hand.

Next up for Wigan is a trip to bottom club Bury this Saturday.

Staying in League One, Matt Grimes was in action for Northampton as they held second-placed Shrewsbury Town to a 1-1 draw.

An eventful game saw both sides reduced to ten men in the second half, with Shrewsbury levelling two minutes after seeing Abu Ogogo sent off.

The point means Northampton remain in the relegation zone but sit level on points with fifth-bottom Oldham.
