Future's bright for Davies

Oliver Davies is keen to "push on and continue improving" after signing a new two-and-a-half-year deal with Swansea City.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper recently put pen-to-paper, securing his future with the club until at least 2016, after impressing during Under-21s action this season.

In the absence of Michel Vorm, Davies' encouraging performances even resulted in a call-up to Michael Laudrup's first-team squad for the Swans' Europa League clash with St. Gallen in Switzerland in December.

And after signing on the dotted line, the Neath-born shot stopper is targeting further first-team opportunities.

"It's great to sign a new deal with the club," said Davies. "It gives me that security for the next couple of years.

"I can now look to push on and continue improving, without having to worry about where my future lies.

"The plan is to keep working hard with the Under-21s and hopefully get more opportunities with the first-team, like I had in Switzerland.

"Maybe next season I will get the chance to go out on loan, which would be another fantastic experience for me."

After a lengthy break over the festive period, Davies and the U21s return to action on Monday afternoon (January 13, 1pm) against Charlton Athletic.

The young Swans host the Addicks at Stebonheath Park in their first fixture since December 16,  with the likes of Davies raring to go again.

"After watching the first-team play over Christmas, it just makes you want to get out there and play yourself," added Davies.

"I can't wait for Monday's game against Charlton. Hopefully we can pick up another three points at home."
