Girls soccer camp proves a big hit

4th August

Swansea City's first girls development soccer camps are underway with over 30 players involved on the first day.
Aimed at youngsters aged six to 14, some travelled from as far as Lampeter to be involved in the two-day event.
Six Swans coaches were on hand to help train the girls at Ashleigh Road in Swansea, with a focus on the technical drills in the morning and 6-a-side games this afternoon, with another session available tomorrow (Tuesday).
And Nia Davies, Girls Regional Football Development Co-ordinator for the Swansea City Academy, said it's a project she is excited to be involved with.
"It's great that we can put on camps like this at the club, the girls involved today were really excited to get going," she said.
"The parents I've spoken to are surprised that the club hasn't had camps like this sooner, many of the girls here today are fans of the club and they want to be associated with it."
This summer's girls development camps are the first step for the club to get more girls in our area involved in football.
Nia added: "The Academy are starting three girls teams for different age groups in the west Wales league, so we are looking for girls to come and play for us and these camps will only help that.
"I hope the next few days show that the game is not just for the boys and that camps like today can increase that participation and get more girls playing football.
"It's not too late if more want to come down and get involved tomorrow, you can either get in touch with the Academy or sign up online."
