Grey: U18s can still reach PL Cup knockouts

8th November

Under-18s coach Jon Grey insists Swansea City’s academy youngsters can still reach the next round of the Premier League Cup despite a 2-0 defeat against Everton at Finch Farm.

Despite opportunities from Mason Jones-Thomas and Jayden Reid it was Toffees midfielder Fraser Hornby who broke the deadlock just after the hour mark.

The attacker doubled his tally and Everton’s advantage with a header to beat Alex Lang at the near post in the 80th minute.

The result leaves the U18s bottom of Group A with one point meaning the Swans must win against West Brom in their final game to have a chance of qualifying for the next round.

“Despite the defeat, it was a very good performance,” Grey said.

“We created a number of chances but were unable to find the back of the net.

“We are still in the competition. It is a tight group but we must ensure we get a win against West Brom in our final group game next month.

“The competition is testing us against teams from the northern division in cup football which adds a different dynamic to our season.”
