Four players made their debuts last weekend, with Roque Mesa, Oli McBurnie, Joe Rodon and Lewis Thomas all featuring for their loan clubs.

It wasn't the start Roque Mesa would have wanted, though, as Sevilla suffered a 5-1 defeat at Eibar in La Liga.

The midfielder featured for 52 minutes before being replaced with his side trailing 3-1 at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua.

Defeat leaves Sevilla in sixth place - one point ahead of Eibar.

Remaining in La Liga, Jordi Amat was in the starting XI as Real Betis beat Villarreal 2-1 on home soil.

Borja was also in action at the weekend, with the striker part of Malaga's side during a 0-0 draw with Leganes.

He played for an hour as the Spanish top flight's bottom club remain seven points from safety.

Oli McBurnie made his first appearance for Barnsley in their 1-0 defeat at QPR.

The striker came off the bench with 22 minutes remaining as the Tykes went down to Josh Scowen's winner.

Barnsley sit one point above the relegation zone in the Championship.

Matt Grimes started for Northampton but couldn't prevent them from suffering a 1-0 home defeat to League One relegation rivals Rochdale.

Grimes made his 32nd appearance for Northampton, with the midfielder playing the full 90 minutes.

In League Two, Joe Rodon made his first appearance in senior football as he featured in Cheltenham's 1-1 draw at Grimsby.

Rodon started in the heart of defence and played the full game as the Robins moved nine points clear of the drop zone.

Tyler Reid made his first start for Newport County as they were beaten 2-0 at Colchester.

The full-back played for 74 minutes as the Exiles slipped five points adrift of the play-offs.

In the Welsh Premier League, Lewis Thomas was between the sticks for Carmarthen Town as they won 3-1 at home to Prestatyn Town.

Adam King (Mansfield), Ryan Blair (Falkirk) and Jefferson Montero (Getafe) failed to feature for their respective clubs at the weekend.
