Roque Mesa made just his second start for Sevilla over the weekend as they claimed a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in La Liga.

The midfielder made his fourth appearance for the Spanish club but was replaced in the 78th minute due to injury.

Sevilla sit four points below Villarreal, who occupy the final Europa League spot, with three games to go.

Staying in Spain, Jordi Amat made his 24th appearance for Real Betis in their 2-1 loss at Athletic Bilbao, while Borja played the second half of Malaga's 3-0 loss to Alaves.

In the Championship, there was disappointment for Oli McBurnie as his loan spell at Barnsley ended in relegation.

McBurnie played the full 90 minutes as the Tykes were thumped 4-1 at Derby, a result which saw them drop into League One.

Matt Grimes was on the scoresheet for Northampton but it was in vain as they suffered relegation to League Two.

The midfielder levelled from the penalty spot in the 2-2 home draw with Oldham – a result which saw both teams finish in the bottom four.

Grimes scored four times in 47 appearances during his season-long spell with the Cobblers.

Jay Fulton, by contrast, won the third-tier title with Wigan - but he did not feature in their final-day win at Doncaster.

Fulton made six appearances for the Latics – scoring once – after joining them in January.

In League Two, Tyler Reid made his third start for Newport County in their 1-1 draw at Carlisle.

The 20-year-old played the full game in his seventh appearance for the Exiles, who finished the season in 11th place.

Adam King was an unused substitute as Mansfield missed out on a play-off spot following a 1-1 home draw with Crawley Town.

The 22-year-old featured seven times for Mansfield after joining the club in January.

Joe Rodon also didn’t feature for Cheltenham Town in their 2-1 defeat at Crewe.

The 20-year-old centre-back made 12 appearances for the Robins after joining them on loan in January.

In Ecuador, meanwhile, Jefferson Montero came on as a 50th-minute substitute as Emelec were beaten 2-0 at Aucas.
