Ian Owen lauded his team’s performance as Swansea City Ladies made it a derby day double for the club.

A few hours after Steve Cooper led the men’s first team to a 1-0 victory over Cardiff City, Owen’s side beat the Bluebirds 2-0 at Llandarcy.

Both teams had the perfect record in the Welsh Premier Women’s League going into this match, and it was goals from Katy Hosford and Stacey John-Davis that proved the difference.

And Owen was thrilled with the performance and result which his side delivered.

Swansea city Ladies celebrate a goal

“I thought we were brilliant from start to finish,” he said. “It was quite even in the first quarter of an hour I suppose. In the first half we had the majority of the chances, but we just couldn’t quite finish it off.

“Then in the second half we were in the driving seat.”

“What a great day for the city and for all of the supporters that we were at our game. We had a great crowd again.

“We asked the players to wear the badge with pride because we knew that the whole club is keen to enforce that – last Sunday in particular - and to be fair, we certainly did that.”
